Na Kumu Hula
Now formally under the tutelage of Kumu Kawika Keikiali`i Alfiche of Hâlau o Keikiali`i (formerly Hâlau Aloha Pumehana `o Polynesia) in South San Francisco, the haumana of Hâlau o Keikiali`i continue their study of traditional hula begun and inspired by Uncle John.  /i//nalei078small.jpg

The hâlau came under Kumu Kawika's care with the passing of Uncle John in 2003. So strong was Uncle John's desire for his haumana to continue their journey, Uncle John himself pointed them in the direction of Kumu Kawika, assured them that he was the closest link to Uncle and the natural person for his haumana to go to. Kumu Kawika accepted the kuleana to malama Uncle John's haumana and formally placed them under his lineage in addition to that of Uncle John's.

With a focus on the time honored elements – oli, mele, and hula – as well as protocol and authenticity, the hâlau has been blessed with the assurance of continuity in their hula lineage. For more information about Kumu Kawika and Hâlau o Keikiali`i, please visit www.apop.net or www.keikialii.com
